Campground: Mount Whitney Ranger District, Lone Pine Campground
Description: 6,000-foot elevation. 43 sites including one group site (up to 15 people). HIking on the Whitney Portal National Recreation Trail, seven miles to Whitney Portal trailhead. Location: From Lone Pine, go six miles west on Whitney Portal Road (Forest Road 15207). Season: April - October. Amenities: Fishing Picnicking Hiking/Backpacking Wildlife Viewing Group Campgnd RV Sites Drinking Water Restrooms. Notes: 35-foot maximum RV length. Reservations must be made at least five days in advance.Max two vehicles or one RV per site. Trailers count as a vehicle. No all-terrain or off-road vehicles allowed in the campground.A lottery system determines who gets to hike Mount Whitney.
