| Description: 8,000-foot elevation. 43 sites including some tent-only sites & two group sites (up to 15 people each). HIking on the Whitney Portal National Recreation Trail, & in the John Muir & Golden Trout Wilderness. Hikes to Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail & Meysan Lake.
Location: From Lone Pine, go 13 miles west on Whitney Portal Road (Forest Road 15207).
Season: May - October. Available: Fishing Picnicking

Camping Wildlife Viewing Drinking Water Restrooms. Notes: 35-foot maximum RV length. Reservations must be made at least five days in advance.Max two vehicles or one RV per site. Trailers count as a vehicle. No all-terrain or off-road vehicles allowed in the campground. Mt. Whitney hiking permits required. High bear activity; bear boxes will be provided & supplies must fit the size of the bear box- 18" high, 18" deep, & 50" long. A lottery system determines who gets to hike Mount Whitney. |
