| Description: This river includes the entire Middle & South Forks, mostly in Kings Canyon National Park. Beginning in glacial lakes above timberline, the river flows through deep, steep-sided canyons, over falls & cataracts, eventually becoming an outstanding whitewater rafting river in its lower reaches in Sequoia National Forest. Whitewater runs the gamut from flatwater on the Pine Flat Reservoir, to Class V+ expert rapids on the upper stretches of the Middle, North & South Forks. Fishing, hiking along the river, camping both backcountry & developed, & scenic driving. The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail parallels the upper reaches of the Middle Fork. Both the Middle Fork & the South Fork feature many lovely waterfalls.
Location: From the confluence of the Middle Fork & the South Fork to the point at elevation 1,595 feet above mean sea level. The Middle Fork from its headwaters at Lake Helen to its confluence with the main stem. The South Fork from its headwaters at Lake 11599 to its confluence with the main stem.
