| Description: On the east side of the Providence Mountain range, this park has dramatic views of the surrounding Mojave desert. The cactus & yucca of the lower elevations gives way to a pinyon pine forest at upper elevations. Mitchell, Pakiva, & Tecopa Caverns are all filled with intricate limestone formations, & can be seen by taking a cavern tour. Other facilities include a campground, a nature trail, & several longer hiking trails.
Location: The recreation area is located in the eastern Mojave Desert, 56 miles from Needles on Interstate 40, 116 miles east of Barstow, & 16 miles northwest of I-40 near Essex Road.
Season: year round; Spring through Fall is best.
