Campground: Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area

Description: The Santa Monica Mountains are LA's big & beautiful backyard. The mountains rise above Los Angeles, widen to meet the curve of Santa Monica Bay & reach their apex in view of the ocean. Nearly 600 miles of trails snake through diverse terrain. On the Paramount Ranch, you can watch movies being made. The Santa Monica Mountains contains one of the largest undisturbed Mediterranean-type ecosystems in the world. Camping in developed campgrounds or in designated backcountry sites. Location: U.S. 101 (Ventura Freeway) borders the mountains on the north, & CA one (Pacific Coast Highway) & the Pacific Ocean form the southern boundary. Access to most park areas is available on the many roads that cross the mountains between these two major highways. Season: year round. Fee: entrance, camping; passes accepted for entrance. Available: Biking Fishing Picnicking Boating (Motorized) Hiking/Backpacking Boating (Non-motorized) Horseback Riding Water Sports Climbing Camping Wildlife Viewing Visitor Center Group Campgnd RV Sites Exhibits Campgnd, Primitive Interpretive Programs Drinking Water Dump Station Restrooms.
