Campground: Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area
Description: Stretching almost 150 miles along the Arkansas River, this area offers outstanding opportunities for fishing, rafting, kayaking, picnicking, hiking, camping, mountain biking, & sightseeing among deep canyons, broad valleys & towering mountain peaks. Another popular activity is panning for gold on the river. Five campgrounds offer dozens of campsites, as well as picnic areas & boat ramps. Location: There are many designated areas along the Arkansas River. The northern end of the area is along US 24 south of Leadville. Season: year round. Reservations: no.
