| The Ten Thousand Islands, which includes Chokoloskee & Everglades City, is one of nature's most beautiful places. Warm wet summers & dry, nearly frost-free, winters encourage the growth of many tropical plants, originally transported here from the Caribbean tropics by wind, H2O & birds. Most animals, on the other hand, are from the temperate zone. This mixing of tropical & temperate zone life, in a subtropical climate, has resulted in the survival of many rare species of birds, reptiles & other animals unique to the United States. |
