Abbot is located in Piscataquis County, Maine, on the Southwest corner of the county. The population is around 650 people. The town of Abbot covers 35.5 square miles. The town of Abbot was named for the treasurer of Bowdoin College, John Abbot.
The actual "downtown area" of Abbot is located along route 6/15. There are several small business's there, like Traftons(small convienience store), The Maine House(gifts,souvenirs,etc.),a barber shop & the Abbot Post Office. The major routes through Abbot are Route 6, Route 15, & Route 16. Abbot has several bodies of H2O, the most popular being Piper Pond & Whetstone Pond, both located along Pond Road. There is a public boat launch at each pond. Piper pond is the larger pond, at 420 acres. The towns bordering Abbot are: Guilford to the south, & Blanchard/Monson to the north. Many people travel through the town of Abbot when heading to Moosehead Lake. The town is aproxamatly 25 minutes south of greenville/ moosehead lake. Abbot is home to many miles of both ATV & Snowmobile trails. The local ATV club is Abbot Explorers, & the snowmobile club is Big Pine Riders. The atving & snowmobiling in this area is unbelievable! There is also a lot of wildlife to be seen in this area. You can usually see Moose, Snowshoe Rabbits, Coyotes, Bears, Deer, turtles, & many different species of birds. Fishing in this area is very popular, as there are many ponds, brooks, streams & rivers. Abbot is a very nice small town, we hope you come visit!
