Sandwich is the village where Cape Cod begins. Sandwich is rich with historical & working museums. Sandwich offers walking & biking trails, bird sanctuaries, salt H2O estuaries, fresh H2O ponds & seashore beaches.Ride along the Cape Cod Canal, the widest sea-level canal in the world, or fish in Cape Cod Bay for flounder, stripers, or blues. Sandwich has several golf courses (private & public) for the duffer in your group. Sandwich has many galleries, studios & artist shops for you viewing pleasure. Sandwich has both state & private campgrounds. Wether you are tenting or you are rving in a motorcoach, Sandwich can accomadate you. In the historical district of Sandwich, the Sandwich Glass museum has a working furnace as well as a full display of it's glassworks. Up the street, there is the Dexter Grist Mill a working mill that grinds corn into cornmeal. The oldest house on Cape Cod, the Hoxie House is just a few more steps away. In the background there is beatiful Shawmee Pond with is swimming swans. The Thorton Burgess museum is also nearby. A short distance by automobile, there is the Heritage Museum & Gardens, famous for it antique cars. Just travel further to East Sandwich, where there are Wing Fort House, Benjamin Nye Homestead & the Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen. At the Cape Cod Canal by the Sandwich Marina, you can visit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Visting Center as well as bike or walk along the canal free of automobile traffic.
