In the historical district of Sandwich, the Sandwich Glass museum has a working furnace as well as a full display of it's glassworks. Up the street, there is the Dexter Grist Mill a working mill that grinds corn into cornmeal. The oldest house on Cape Cod, the Hoxie House is just a few more steps away. In the background there is beatiful Shawmee Pond with is swimming swans. The Thorton Burgess museum is also nearby. A short distance by automobile, there is the Heritage Museum & Gardens, famous for it antique cars. Just travel further to East Sandwich, where there are Wing Fort House, Benjamin Nye Homestead & the Green Briar Nature Center & Jam Kitchen. At the Cape Cod Canal by the Sandwich Marina, you can visit the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Visting Center as well as bike or walk along the canal free of automobile traffic.
