Annapolis is a quaint little town, approximately 90 miles south of St. Louis, with a flavor all its own. The population was 310 at the 2000 census. It's the home of the South Iron School District, which is a wonderful K-12 school! There is a small grocery store with a laundromat beside it. There's a post office too--everyone is VERY nice there! The local gas station/convenience store is great too! There's a great bed & breakfast, an inn, & a cottage (for your friends who don't have RVs), & a cute little library where you can research all the local history. As you drive out of town toward Big Creek RV Park on Highway 49, you'll come to the Sidetracked Saloon, which is a great place to stop, meet some of the locals, & have a cold beverage of your choice. You can catch up on the local gossip, & you'll probably be able to hear a few stories about the area as well. And--there are five state parks within 30 miles--Elephant Rocks State Park, Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park, Lake Wappapello State Park, Sam A. Baker State Park, & Taum Sauk Mountain State Park. When you've visited all of that, if you're not too tired, there's even more to see in the Arcadia Valley. The Arcadia Valley has historic Fort Davidson, where one of the largest & most hard-fought Civil War battles in Missouri was fought--the battle of Pilot Knob. There are several great restaurants, & there are two nice motels. It has several fast food establishments, & it also has a laundromat if you need it. To sum it up--we love it here, & you will too!
