Description: 15 campsites & ten picnic units on lovely, large, Lake Koocanusa. Potable H2O & a swimming beach at McGillivray Campground. Koocanusa Reservoir, formed by Libby Dam on the Kootenai River covers 46,500 acres & stretches about 90 miles over the US/Canadian border. Fishing for kokanee salmon, whitefish, rainbow trout, & brown trout. The Kootenai River below the Libby Dam is a blue ribbon fishery. Tours at Libby Dam, managed in partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers. Osprey often fish around the dam at sunset, & great numbers of bald eagles can be seen in the fall, hunting kokanee. The visitor center is 17 miles north of Libby. Location: From Libby, go 15 miles east on MT 37, & 13 miles north on Forest Road 228. Season: May 23 - September 15. Fee: no. Reservations: NO.
