Campground: Keller Park State Recreation Area

Keller Park SRA, northwest of Ainsworth on Bone Creek, is one of the few spots where anglers can pursue rainbow trout along with warm-water species. The 196-acre area has ten acres of H2O in five fishing ponds. Attractions Nestled amid rugged tree covered bluffs, the area offers camping, H2O, vault toilets, dump station, picnic tables & shelters. Hiking is popular, & a rustic foot bridge across the creek adds charm to a stroll. The 640-acre Keller School Land Wildlife Management Area is nearby. Nature lovers will find the area a mecca for all types of wildlife, from songbirds to whitetails & an occasional mule deer. During the spring & fall migrations, whispering wings will include ducks, like mallards, teal & shovelers, as well as hawks & may even an eagle or two. Sharp-eyed bird watchers might spot sandhill cranes as they wing overhead, & maybe even one of the rare whooping cranes that stop over on the nearby Niobrara River.
