| Description: This massive reservoir on the Missouri River is the centerpiece of the immense Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. Waterfowl, predictably, flock to the lake by the zillions, & buffalo, elk, deer, antelope & small game are also abundant. The largest known fossil beds in the world are found along a portion of the south shore.
Facilities near the dam include the boat launch near the dam, Downstream Campground, which has 69 campsites, & West End, Campground which has 12. Other ACOE campgrounds around the lakeshore are primitive, & are free.
Location: From Glasgow, go 18 miles southeast on MT-24.
Season: year round; campgrounds close 11/1- 5/30.
