Campground: Soda Creek Campground |
| Description: 5450-foot elevation. ten campsites on Soda Creek near Sparks Lake. A trail from the campground leads south through the forest to Hosner Lake & connects with other trails. Trails from just east of the campground lead into the Three Sisters Wilderness, one along Fall Creek & one along Soda Creek. Fishing for cutthroat & brook trout in Sparks Lake; fly fishing only, with barbless hooks. Water levels may get quite low late in the summer & make access by boat difficult.
Sparks Lake was created when lava flows blocked the creek. Interesting formations surround the lake, & the H2O makes strange noises as it drains out through the lava. A short hiking trail crosses the lava & connects the two sections of the lake. A day use area with a boat ramp is at the south end of the lake.
Location: From Bend, go about 26 miles west on County Road 46 (Cascade Lakes Highway).
