| Description: The Pacific Coast byway runs roughly parallel to the coast, occasionally curving inland around an estuary or tracing a rocky point jutting out into the ocean. Travelers on the byway pass by pastoral inland farms, verdant rain forests, expansive sandy dunes, historic lighthouses perched on rocky shores, & a number of charming little coastal towns.
State parks line the coast itself, offering a number of places to stop & camp, hike, beachcomb, bicycle, or watch for the abundant marine birds & mammals, either on the rocks along the coast or offshroe, on the federally-protected Oregon Islands.OHV use permitted on designated areas of the dunes. Facilities are numerous enough to accomodate almost everyone. Most campgrounds are highly developed & charge fees, but some walk-in or bike-in tent campgrounds are available.
