| Description: The centerpiece of Crater Lake National Park is a six-mile wide, 1932-foot deep, intensely blue caldera lake, formed after an eruption nearly 8000 years ago. Surrounding the park are thousands of acres of backcountry wilderness in the Cascade Range, including Mount Shasta. Other traces of the ancient eruptions can be found at the Pinnacles, a moonscape of wierdly-sculpted ash.
Location: From Medford, take OR 62 north & east to the park`s west entrance. From Klamath Falls,take US 97 north to OR 62 north, then west to the park`s south entrance.
Season: year round; best June - September. Fee: entrance, camping, boat tours. Reservations: for some camp sites. Available: Fishing Picnicking
