| Description: The byway starts in the ponderosa & lodgepole pine forests of the Fremont National Forest, & continues onto the wide-open sagebrush steppes of the high desert plateau.
Fishing & boating in Summer Lake & Lake Abert. Hiking at Fort Rock National Landmark, Summer Lake Rest Area, Chandler Wayside, & Gooselake State Parks. Dispersed camping permitted on BLM lands around the byway & in the Fremont National Forest. Visitors also enjoy exploring archeological areas like Picture Rock Pass or historical areas in Lakeview.
Location: Byway contains the entire length of OR 31 from US 97 south of La Pine to the Oregon-California border.
