| Description: 3600-foot elevation. 33 campsites on Toketee Reservoir, on the North Umpqua River. 80-acre Toketee Lake hosts a healthy population of brown & rainbow trout. The reservoir also provides a home for a wide variety of non-aquatic wildlife: beavers, otters, great blue herons, kingfishers, ducks, geese, & bald eagles are all year round inhabitants or seasonal visitors. A hiking trail starts near the intersection of OR 138 & FR 34, then plunges down into the North Umpqua River canyon. The North Umpqua National Recreation Trail is also acccessible from here.
Umpqua Hot Springs is a couple miles north of the campground, & features a small pool semi-enclosed by a shelter in a beautiful mixed-conifer forest. The waters are just right for soaking (105º-117º), but the pool only holds about five bathers & you might have to wait your turn on weekends. Camping is not allowed at Umpqua. Because of its popularity & family use, one should be prepared to wear a bathing suit.
Toketee Ranger Station, on the east side of the lake, offers information & emergency medical services.
Location: From Roseburg, go 60 miles east on OR 138, & 1.5 miles on Forest Road 34.
