Campground: Detroit Ranger District, Willamette National Forest, Big Meadows Campground

Description: 3600-foot elevation. nine campsites with a four-stall corral, a stock loading ramp, & a trough. Numerous trails loop into the lake-filled heights of the Mount Jefferson Wilderness, from both FR 2257 & FR 2267. Please pack in your own hay, there is insufficient forage in the forest. In the winter, this is the parking area for the Fay Lake Ski Trail (6 miles) & for the Mountain View Snow Shelter. The ski trail is blazed with blue diamonds. The shelter is equipped with a restroom & a wood stove, & can accomodate up to 15 people, although groups of more than eight must obtain a permit. Maximum stay in the shelter is three days. Location: From Detroit, go 23 miles southeast on OR 22, 1.5 miles east on Forest Road 2267 (Big Meadows Road), then 0.5 mile north on FR 2257. Season: June - October (depending on snow. Available: Fishing Hiking/Backpacking Scenic Driving Horseback Riding Drinking Water RV sites Restrooms. Notes: 36-foot maximum RV length.
