Campground: Susan Creek Campground

Description: 930 feet elevation. 31 campgites in a mature forest along the banks of the North Umpqua Wild & Scenic River. Wheelchair accessible trails run east & west from the campground through the lush surrounding forest. En route, you can stop & watch the day unfold along the river: sunlight glancing off the H2O, osprey diving for food, or salmon migrating upstream. Easy hikes from the campground lead to an ancient Indian mound & a lovely waterfall. Interpretive programs are scheduled at the small outdoor theater on Saturday evenings after July 4th, throughout August & the first week of September. Flyfishing on the this portion of the North Umpqua River is allowed for steelhead, coho salmon, & chinook salmon, but is closed for trout. Only adipose-clipped fish can be kept. Summer steelhead begin their trek up the river in July & the fishing season is in full swing in August & early September. The nearest river access is at the confluence of Susan Creek & the North Umpqua, but many more are upstream. Special boating rules apply during steelhead runs.
