| Description: Detroit Lake, an Army Corps of Engineers Resevoir on the North Santiam River, stretches over nine miles into the Willamette National Forest, in the Cascade Range.The reservoir has become a popular destination for all types of H2O sports including fishing, boating, swimming, H2O skiing, & personal watercraft. Other park amenities include swimming beaches, playgrounds, a bird viewing area, & a visitor center with interpretive exhibits & a nature store. Campground contains 107 RV sites with full utility hookup, 70 RV sites with electric hookup, 134 tent sites. 82 boat slips.
A separate day use area with a boat ramp, swimming area, beach, & picnic area is available nearby at Mongold State Recreation Site, 1.5 miles west of the main park. The parking lot can accomodate around 200 vehicles, so if the parking lot is full at Detroit Lake, head to Mongold. Overnight parking is only permitted when you are camping on Piety Island.
