| Description: Memaloose is a cool & shady retreat from the city during the summer time. Cool summertime fun includes fishing, boating, & windsurfing in the Columbia River. If you`re feeling lazy, relax with a picnic lunch on the grass under the shady hardwoods. The open meadows make for great stargazing in the summer, & among the many interpretive & living history programs offered here is a Summer Nights astronomy program.
The name of the park refers to the burials held here by generations of the Chinook tribe; it was the custom to lay the dead on open pyres on Memaloose Island. From the campground, you can see the monument which marks the grave of a pioneer who chose to be laid to rest with the natives.
Campground contains 43 RV sites with full utility hookup, 67 tent sites.
Location: From The Dalles, go 11 miles west on I-84, to exit #76. Accessible for westbound traffic only.
