Campground: Sandy River

Description: The Wild & Scenic Sandy River flows from high on the slopes of Mount Hood 24.9 miles to Dodge Park, north of the town of Sandy. The upper Sandy, in the Mount Hood Wilderness, contains wild river, stunning geology, & unique plant communities. Recreational opportunities include camping at the three campgrounds in the area, backpacking into the wilderness & fishing in the river & its tributaries. The lower Sandy is noted for its anadromous fishery, & popular for its easily accessible recreational opportunities. The segment past the boundary of the designated section, from Dodge Park to Dabney State Park, receives over a million visits annually. Visitors fish for salmon & steelhead, swim, float & raft on the quietwater, picnic, & camp. Fishing competition is extremely heavy. Location: River access from the Columbia River Highway east of Troutdale, off US 26, near Sandy, Forest Road 18 in Mount Hood National Forest, & FR 1825, near the wilderness boundary. Season: year round. Fee: NW Forest pass required at trailheads. Reservations: no.
