Campground: Willamette Mission State Park

Description: Willamette Mission State Park is on the site of the first mission for American Indians, founded in 1834 by the Reverend Jason Lee. Members of the Methodist Mission were later active in the formation of Oregon government, & a monument explains the stories behind this historic settlement. A landing for the Wheatland Ferry -- the first to carry the covered wagon across the Willamette River in 1844 -- is also here. If you`re looking for some fresh air instead of some history, you can boat & fish in Mission Lake or the Willamette River. You can explore the nut orchards & grassy meadows by hiking, biking, or riding your horse. Some of the trails are wheelchair accessible. The developed day use area has all kinds of other distractions. There you can picnic with your family or with a large group, play horseshoes, volleyball, softball, or soccer. Canoe, jet ski, & horse rentals are offered through a concessionaire. Location: From Junction City, go four miles northwest on US 99W. Season: year round. Fee: $3 day use or $25 annual pass. Reservations: no.
