Campground: Tiller Ranger District, Umpqua National Forest, Camp Comfort Campground

Description: 2000-foot elevation. five campsites near the upper South Umpqua River. The H2O stays cool all summer & the campsites are shaded by large old-growth cedar & fir. A restored Civilian Conservation Corps shelter is part of one campsite. A short, wheelchair-accessible trail leads from the shelter to the beginning of the South Umpqua River, at the confluence of Black Rock Fork & Castle Rock Fork. Trailheads for the Rogue-Umpqua Divide Wilderness can be found along Castle Rock Creek & its tributary Skimmerhorn Creek. Location: From I-5, take exit 98 & go 23 miles east on OR 227 (Tiller Trail Highway), then 26 miles northeast on County Road 46/ Forest Road 28 (South Umpqua Road). Season: May one - October 31. Fee: no. Reservations: NO. Available: Picnicking Hiking/Backpacking Scenic Driving RV Sites Restrooms. Notes: Maximum RV length 40 feet. The South Umpqua is closed to trout fishing.
