Edinboro is located in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is a small college town, as well as a resort community. The population was 6,950 at the 2000 census. Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, which is part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, is a major contributor to the local economy. Edinboro University was founded in 1857. It has an enrollment close to 8,000. Every year in May the university has a three day Scottish festival that celebrates Scottish heritage through a series of special performances & events. There are athletic events, a Highland Dance Competition & the stirring sound of the marching pipe bands. Some of the Scottish games include the Hammer throw & the caber toss. During the summer months, there are free concerts on the lawn of the auditorium. Soccer tournaments, many band & football camps also take place here during the summer.
