| Description: Bluff was established in the 1880`s, but after eight years of uncertain H2O, most of the settlers relocated to Monticello. Before the Mormon settlers, Utes lived in this area, as did the Anasazi, whose petroglyphs dot the area, including a fine panel two miles past Bluff. There is a small campground here which tends to fill up quickly. The first spectacular geologic formation the driver encounters is Comb Wash & adjacent Comb Ridge, a long redrock escarpment. From the summit you can see your destination, the giant formations of Monument Valley. Dispersed camping is available off the 17 mile Valley of the Gods loop, & there are primitive campsites at Gooseneck state park. Past there you drive onto the Navajo tribal lands, & the open spaces, red rock sculpture, & postcard-gorgeous views. The Tribal Visitor Center lies right over the Arizona border.
