Campground: Cedar Breaks Scenic Byway

Description: Driving up the elevated, winding road, travelers can take their time & take in the color & character of this byway. From the flowered meadows of the Dixie National Forest to the multi-colored rock amphitheater of Cedar Breaks National Monument, the view from the car is spectacular. Stopping on a clear day at one of the many scenic pullovers one can see for a hundred miles, across the Escalante Desert to the Great Basin & western Nevada. Animals large & small, particularly mule deer, are common pedestrians along the byway in the early morning & late evening, so keep alert! Location: From Cedar City, take U-14 west about 30 miles to the junction with UT-148. The scenic byway is UT-148 between UT-14 & UT-143. One way trip is six miles & takes about 30 minutes. Season: road closed in winter; skiing & snowmobiling ok. Fee: entrance fee for Cedar Breaks. Reservations: no.
