Above the rolling Valley of Addison County Vermont, over which private planes, hang gliders and many Canada and Snow Geese soar; sits Bristol, an old town which still has great gift shops and eateries. There are Wednesday night band concerts on the Green in the summer for all to share, sometimes Thursday night movies-in-the-park, and the Biggest Bestest 4th of July Parade around. In the center of Bristol one can enjoy creamies and pizzas or an evening at the local upbeat Pub and Brewery. Maple Hill Campsites is probably the most secluded of the Bristol Campgrounds, it is not located in the middle of the town of Bristol. Maple Hill is in the Hamlet of South Starksboro only 5 miles from the center of Bristol, nestled in the foothills of the Green Mountains and only two miles from a very special restaurant. Other Bristol Campgrounds are on the plateau of the Champlain Valley. The Lake, that is Lake Champlain,on the West and the mountains, define our area of Vermont, but one need not travel all the way to the Lake to swim. Here in Bristol is a town "swimming hole" below a rushing falls, the size of several Olympic pools put together. Many Antique shops, art galleries, yummy bakeries and world class museums such as the Shelburne museum 40 minutes North and the Sheldon, in the nearby college town of Middlebury are found near the Bristol Campgrounds. Some folks like to venture "over the mountain" toward the ski areas and Waitsfield where even more treasures await. A further day trip will lead to a tour of a factory where some very special internationally served ice cream is made.
