Generations of Fond Vacation Memories
When Ocean Park Resort began in the early 1900’s, as a Methodist Church Retreat, we can only imagine the fun & fellowship that occurred when folks gathered to enjoy the beauty this tranquil & pristine area offered. Over the years to come, Ocean Park grew commercially, but at the same time kept it’s natural beauty that attracted vacationers to this area. Families always returned each year to experience the restful recreation so sought after by businessmen from the city. As the years passed, the Ocean Park Resort was no longer affiliated with the Methodist Church & there were several different owners & names. For many years the park was known as the Ocean Park Tourist Camp. Cabins were constructed sometime during the 1930’s & upgraded facilities were introduced as the tourist industry evolved & recreational vehicles grew larger & more luxurious.
By 1975, most of the tourist camp was converted from tent sites to RV sites. Only a small tenting area remained. A “modern” 12-unit motel was built in 1981 & a swimming pool & spa were added in 1983. The motel is continually being upgraded & is ALL non-smoking. Small pets are allowed in some rooms for a fee.
In 1985 the new owners changed the name to Ocean Park Resort. Since 1985, many upgrades have been done on the park. The Recreation Hall was completely renovated in 2005 & a kitchen facility was added. The campground restroom & shower facility was totally remodeled in 1995. And we have been told that we have one of the “nicest” guest laundry facilities our customers have ever come across in their travels. The resort also has two “Guest House” rentals. One unit sleeps two persons & the other unit sleeps up to five people.
The resort still offers a park like setting without having to sacrifice conveniences of the city. There is a general store, ice cream parlor, video rental, restaurants, shopping & pharmacy all within walking distance. And, of course, the beautiful, wide, sandy beach of the great Pacific Ocean is only a 5-minute stroll.
