Campground: Battle Ground Lake State Park

Description: 280 acres of evergreen forest around Battle Ground Lake, in the lush eastern Cascade Mountains.Battle Ground Lake was formed by much the same process as Crater Lake in Oregon, when volcanic magma hit H2O & caused a massive steam explosion, resulting in a crater. Several miles of trails which wind through the woods are variously open to hiking, biking, & horse riding, including a self-guided nature trail.. The lake is regularly stocked with trout. The regular campground has 50 sites, including 15 primitive, walk-in tent sites. A horse campground has four sites with small corrals. Two kitchen shelters are available to groups in the picnic area, & the one with electricity can hold up to 150 people. A group campground offers four three-sided shelters, which can each sleep up to eight people, a sheltered cooking area, & enough space for 32 tent campers. Other facilities include a badminton court, a baseball field, two horseshoe pits, a softball field, & a volleyball court. The fields have room for soccer, but no goal posts. Location: From Battle Ground, go about three miles northeast on Grace Avenue & Heisson Avenue. Season: year round, gates close at dusk.
