Campground: Birch Bay State Park

Description: 194 acres on the Pacific Ocean with views of both the Canadian Gulf Islands & the Cascade Mountains. Most visitors enjoy walking on the beach & enjoying the rich wildlife of the estuary & in the wildlife sanctuary at the north end. Boating is available in the bay, as well as fishing. Beachcombing, crabbing, digging for oysters, & clamming can all be enjoyed on the shore. The campground has 167 campsites, mostly for tents, but 20 sites do have full utility hookup for RVs. A basketball court is nearby. A primitive group area is available, which can hold about 60 people. An ampitheater is available for group use or interpretive programs. Location: From Bellingham, go 11 miles north on I-5, & take exit #266. Go seven miles west on Grandview, one mile north on Jackson, & one mile west on Hedwig. Season: year round; gates close at dusk.
