Campground: Chief Timothy State Park

Description: A 282-acre island in the Snake River, just downstream from Clarkston. This sunny, dry area is a great destination for boating, waterskiing, swimming, picnicking, & fishing for bass, catfish, crappie, perch, steelhead, sturgeon, & trout. The Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail runs through the park, which was once a Nez Perce encampment. The interpretive center is named for Chief Alpowai of the Nez Perce, who was a valued ally for white settlers in the area. The campground has 66 sites, including 50 with full RV hookups, & 16 walk-in, tent-only sites. Other facilities include horseshoe pits & a volleyball court. Location: From Clarkston, go eight miles west on US 12. Season: year round, gates close at dusk.
