Campground: Fields Spring State Park

Description: 792 acres on Puffer Butte (4500 feet), part of the Blue Mountains, which range through Oregon & Washington. Vistas from the park stretch into Oregon & Idaho, encompassing the Grande Ronde River valley. This is a popular "jumping off point" for hang gliding & paragliding. Hiking & mountain biking in the forested hills. Excellent berry picking in the fall, & in the winter groomed trails are open to snowshoeing & cross-country skiing. Campground has 20 sites, & a teepee camp can sleep up to six ($20/ night). A group kitchen shelter is also available in the campground (and another in the picnic area). Other group facilities inlcude the Puffer Butte Environmental Learning Center & the WO-HE-LO Environmental Learning Center which accomodate up to 80 & 25 people respectively, but which can be combined. Rental of either ELC includes overnight use of cabins, large lodge, fireplace kitchen, restrooms & showers. Other facilities include horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, & a softball fields. Location: From Clarkston, go 30 miles south on WA 129. Season: year round, gates close at dusk. Fee: sno-park permit in winter.
