Campground: Fort Ebey State Park

Description: 645 acres within Ebey`s Landing State Park, on central Whidbey Island. This fort was built as a coastal defense during World War II, & today`s visitors can still see the concrete gun platforms & bunkers. This is a popular surfing area, & is also a destination for paragliding, saltwater fishing & jet-skiing. Inland, about 28 miles of trails are open to mountain biking & hiking, & Lake Pondilla, a kettle lake left by glaciers, is open to bass fishing & swimming. The picnic area also offers badminton & volleyball courts, as well as a soccer field & a softball field. Sports fields are unmarked. The campground has 48 sites, including four with full RV hookup, & a group area which can hold up to 60 people. Location: From Oak Harbor, take WA 20 south about eight miles, 1.5 miles west on Libbey Road, then left on Hill Valley Drive. Alternately, take the Mukilteo ferry to Clinton & go north on WA 525 & WA 20. Season: year round; gates close at dusk.
