Campground: Gingko State Park

Description: 7470 acres on Wanapum Reservoir, formed by the Wanapum dam on the Columbia River. Fishing for bass, bluegill, bullhead, catfish, perch, salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, & trout in the river. Although many visitors enjoy boating, waterskiing, swimming, & fishing in the lake, the highlight of this park is the petrified forest discovered in the 1930s, with extremely rare ginko tree specimens. The buildings at the park were mostly constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. An interpretive center tells the story of how the forest came to be petrified. The campground has 50 RV sites with full utility hookups. Group tours are available by reservation; call 509-856-2700. Location: Just north of Vantage; take exit #136 from I-90 & go about two miles north. Season: year round, gates close at dusk.
