Campground: Kopachuck State Park

Description: 109 acres on Henderson Bay, with views of sunsets & the Olympic Mountains to the west. The sandy beach is the focus of activity-- wading in the sun-warmed waters, crabbing, clamming, & digging for oysters. Fishing off shore, as well as waterskiing, diving, & jetskiing. A fun trip out is to Cutts Island, 0.5 mile offshore. People with disabilities can drive all the way to the beach, but everyone else has to walk down a short hill. Educational programs include nature walks by appointment or as part of a Junion Ranger program. The campground has 41 sites, & two tent-only group areas which can hold up to 20 & 35 people, respectively. The picnic area has four kitchen shelters. Location: From Gig Harbor, go about five miles west on Rosedale Street NW & on Kopachuck Drive NW. Season: year round, no camping Oct- March. Reservations: for groups, call 253-265-3606.
