Campground: Bozeman Trail

While traveling the Bozeman Trail today, the public lands on the way evoke the most significant events from the old days of the trail, from the heady excitement of the gold camp & territorial capitol at Bannack, to the indescribable tragedies of the Sioux wars. The following public lands lie along the route in Montana-- many more stops are operated privately or by the Crow: Rosebud Battlesite Little Bighorn Battlesite Pictograph Caves Chief Plenty Coup Museum & Historic Home, Bannack Location: I-90/US 87 from the Montana border west past Three Forks, & south on US 287 to Virginia City. A side trip includes the loop on the Crow tribal lands which leads to Pryor. Season: year round. Fee: for some sites. Reservations: no.
